Gary Woodland leads US PGA Championship
Gary Woodland holed five birdies on the back nine to surge into the first-round lead of the US PGA Championship.
The American, who has never finished inside the top 10 at a major, carded a six-under 64 at Bellerive, Missouri to nudge Rickie Fowler out of top spot.
For most of the day, Fowler had ruled the leaderboard after launching his quest for his first major with a 65 but could only watch as Woodland mounted an unexpected charge.
Defending champion Justin Thomas ended one under, while playing partners Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods finished level.
