Iceland seal historic World Cup place
Iceland’s fairytale story in international football continued, as a 2-0 win over Kosovo sealed their place at next year’s World Cup in Russia.
With a population of around 335,000, they’re the smallest country ever to reach the event.
They’ll be joined at next year’s tournament in Russia by Serbia, who edged past Georgia 1-0 to finish first in Group D.
However, Welsh hopes of qualification are over, after the Euro 2016 semi-finalists lost 1-0 to Ireland, meaning their opponents pipped them to a play-off spot.
