The world's busiest hub for international passengers has received recognition for its health and safety measures.

Dubai International (DXB) has been certified in the Airport Council International's (ACI) Airport Health Accreditation Programme.

It's in recognition of DXB's efforts to ensure the health and safety of passengers and airport staff.

The evaluation process found that the precautionary measures being taken by Dubai Airports are in line with the recommended health measures established in the ACI Aviation Business Restart and Recovery guidelines and International Civil Aviation Organisation's (ICAO) Council Aviation Recovery Task Force Recommendations, along with industry best practices.

Since the beginning of the pandemic last year, Dubai Airports, in cooperation with government health authorities and other service partners, has implemented a series of comprehensive measures.

These stringent measures include fumigation as well as periodic deep cleaning of airport facilities, enabling the testing of inbound passengers and vaccination of airport staff, thermal and temperature screening, social distancing markers, providing hand sanitiser stations around the airport and use of protective plexiglass at check-in and immigration counters.

It has also been ensuring the availability of PPE and facilities for the safe disposal and handling of biohazard material (PPEs), in addition to increased levels of sanitisation in compliance with international standards as set out by relevant local and federal authorities.

More than 4 million RT PCR tests have been conducted at DXB so far, while 110,000 airport staff including nearly 80 per cent of Dubai Airports employees have also been vaccinated against COVID-19.

Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports, welcomed the certification as an endorsement of DXB's commitment to health and safety as the key element of its response to the pandemic.

"Aviation will be a critical driver of the global economic recovery from the impacts of COVID-19. The supportive regulatory landscape in the United Arab Emirates has allowed Dubai International to rebuild operations with globally-recognised standards and protocols in place to ensure the health and safety of passengers and employees," he added.
