Countries reach plastic-use resolution at UN event

Sam YEH / AFP

More than 170 countries around the world have promised to "significantly reduce" how much plastic they use by 2030.

It comes after five days of talks at the UN Environment Assembly in Nairobi, Kenya.

In the end, a non-binding resolution was made regards disposable items like plastic bags.

According to the UN, more than eight million tonnes of plastic enter the world's oceans every year.
