COVID-19: Updates from UAE government media briefing

WAM

The UAE government has urged citizens and residents not to panic due to the emergence of a new strain of coronavirus.

The public must continue to take all precautionary measures and avoid spreading unclear news, it stated.

Spokesperson Dr. Omar Al Hammadi during the UAE government’s media briefing advised that those coming from abroad must adhere to the precautionary measures.

“They must home quarantine themselves and not mix with others. In case they feel any symptoms, they must go to the hospital,” Al Hammadi said, adding that the UAE health system can deal effectively and cope with this situation.

About the emergence of a new mutation of coronavirus, he explained that viruses are among the most rapidly developing organisms, which makes them volatile and constantly changing.

A mutation simply means that a change in the genes of the virus occurs during the reproduction process, and it is passed on to the new generation of the virus.

He added that individual awareness is the best weapon to protect ourselves and our families.

“ We cannot see the virus, we must protect ourselves and our community,"
