Dubai reports major success in combatting drug crimes

A total of 238 kg of drugs and 6 million narcotic pills were confiscated by Dubai Police in the first quarter of this year.

This accounted for 36 per cent of the total amount of drugs seized nationwide during the three-month period.

During Q1, the General Department of Anti-Narcotics at Dubai Police reported significant success in combatting drug-related crimes, apprehending 47 per cent of suspects arrested in the country.

The figures were revealed during a review meeting of the Department, which also blocked  208 social media accounts for promoting drugs.

The authority said it shared 65 vital pieces of information with various countries in the first quarter of this year, which led to the arrest of 65 suspects and the confiscation of 842 kg of narcotic substances.

Col. Abdullah Al Khayat, Director of Hemaya International Centre added that 24,204 people from various nationalities benefitted from the force's student and community programmes in Q1 2023, while over six million individuals benefitted from various awareness campaigns.
