Dubai is taking further measures to turn into a bicycle-friendly city.
New regulations, safety measures and facilities are being developed to encourage cycling, based on the directives of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council.
In an update on Twitter, Sheikh Hamdan said the initiative is in line with Dubai Plan 2021 to enhance the emirate's position as a preferred place to live and work.
It's also aimed at reducing carbon emissions and bringing down fatalities due to road accidents.
He added that international best practices will be applied in developing the infrastructure.
We are transforming Dubai into a bicycle-friendly city, developing laws and a legislative system, while applying world-class best practices, to create an infrastructure that accommodates this eco-friendly and healthy mode of transport.
