The Midday Break is set to begin as the UAE looks to protect workers from being outside in the rising summer temperatures.

From Saturday 15 June, companies face fines of up to AED 50,000 if employees are caught working outside, directly under the sun, during the hours of 12:30pm until 3pm under Midday Break regulations.

Businesses will be slapped with fines of AED 5,000 per employee breaching the break, reaching AED 50,000 if several workers are found breaking the rules.

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation is implementing the break to provide a safe working environment for labourers during the UAE's hot summer months.

The rules last until 15th September and it’s the 20th year in a row that the Midday Break has been in effect.

The Ministry has also implemented 6,000 rest stations across the UAE for delivery drivers to use during these hours.
