The UAE has dispatched more medical aid to Lebanon to help with emergency relief efforts in Beirut.

Dubai’s International Humanitarian City (IHC) airlifted 25 tonnes of supplies worth $1.4 million (AED 5.1 million), based on the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

The items included medical supplies and personal protective equipment (PPE) - surgical masks, goggles, gowns, coveralls, N95 respirators, stretchers and thermometers.

"Based on the needs identified by our medical staff in Lebanon, we are dispatching additional medical supplies that are critically needed to treat those impacted by the blast and simultaneously protect health care workers treating patients during the pandemic," said Robert Blanchard from the World Health Organisation's (WHO) logistics hub in Dubai.

Immediately after the explosion in Beirut, the UAE had dispatched the first consignment of emergency medical assistance to Lebanon to help healthcare facilities treat victims of the explosions.

"This second aid flight to Lebanon demonstrates the capacity of the International Humanitarian City’s community to respond to emergencies and help those most in need during such a challenging time," said Giuseppe Saba, CEO of the International Humanitarian City.
