UAE weather bureau has confirmed that tropical Cyclone Tej has intensified over the Arabian Sea and will have an "indirect impact" on the country.

Taking to their official social media channels, the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) has forecast rain for the country's east and south.

Tej, which is currently Category 2 cyclone, is expected to deepen into Category 3 in the next 24 hours, with wind speeds of up to 190 kmph.

Residents have been urged to follow the NCM social media handles for regular updates, and not to spread rumours.

Meanwhile, Cyclone Tej will directly hit neighbouring Oman, with heavy rain and flash floods alerts issued for the country.

Authorities have announced the closure of schools and offices on October 23 and 24 in Dhofar Governorate and the Wilayat of Al Jazir in the Al Wusta Governorate.
