UAE astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi made a call for global action to protect the planet during a live Q&A from the International Space Station.
Speaking on Wednesday night, Al Neyadi highlighted the importance of preserving the Earth's resources and ensuring their sustainability for future generations.
The event, organised by the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC) in honour of the International Day of Human Space Flight, marked the second episode of 'A Call With Space'.
Al Neyadi, who is currently on the longest Arab space mission aboard the ISS, engaged with UAE media and spoke candidly about his experiences in space.
Having spent time on the ISS, he expressed his appreciation for two vital resources: oxygen and water. He urged the public to recognise the fragility of our planet and to take action to protect it, stating "We need to protect the planet".
Al Neyadi's comments come at a critical time for the planet, with climate change and resource depletion posing significant challenges.
His message is particularly significant given the UAE's efforts to promote sustainability and environmental protection. The country has made significant strides in renewable energy and has set ambitious targets for reducing its carbon footprint. With COP28 taking place later this year there is a strong focus on the future of our planet.
Earlier in the week the astronaut shared a photo of his home, Al Ain describing his "Cherished recollections of Umm Ghafa".
Greetings to everyone in Al Ain 💜
