Two hotels on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi have been quarantined to contain the spread of COVID-19.

The two Italian cyclists, who tested positive for the novel coronavirus, were staying at the hotels or were in contact with individuals there.

According to the Department of Health - Abu Dhabi (DoH-AD), the decision has been taken in collaboration with the UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention.

Authorities say all necessary measures have been taken to ensure the good health and safety of guests at the two hotels, while others who came in contact with the patients have been confined to 14 days of home-quarantine.

The two patients are currently under observation and receiving necessary medical care.

The Abu Dhabi Sports Council had earlier cancelled the remaining stages of the 2020 UAE Tour, scheduled for Friday and Saturday.
