UAE FNC adopts recommendations on AI

WAM

The UAE's Federal National Council (FNC) has adopted a series of recommendations during a session focused on the government's policy regarding artificial intelligence (AI).

Chaired by FNC Speaker Saqr Gobash, the session saw participation from Omar bin Sultan Al Olama, the Minister of State for AI, Digital Economy, and Remote Work.

The recommendations highlighted the need to review existing laws related to AI, data protection, and governance.

They also called for a unified platform to share open data between government and private sectors, and emphasised supporting AI entrepreneurs through funding and technical assistance.

The FNC stressed the importance of public-private sector partnerships to drive research and development in AI, aiming to strengthen the UAE's position in the global AI market and improve the efficiency of government services.

The recommendations will now be sent back to the FNC's Technology Committee for further revision before being submitted to the government for approval.

Al Olama also outlined the UAE's AI strategy, which has made significant progress, with the country emerging as a leader in AI by 2017.

He detailed a three-phase plan focused on talent development, AI adoption and global leadership, including a new training programme in collaboration with the University of Oxford to equip citizens for future AI-driven jobs.
