The UAE has pledged US$5 million in humanitarian assistance to support civilians affected by the situation in Ukraine.

The amount will go towards the United Nations’ Humanitarian Flash Appeal and the Regional Refugee Response Plan for Ukraine.

The UAE has emphasised the importance of protecting civilians and ensuring safe access for humanitarian agencies as well as secure passage for those seeking to leave Ukraine.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres officially launched the appeal to fund the UN’s humanitarian operations in Ukraine on March 1.

According to the UN, the assistance is crucial in supporting the thousands of people affected by the disruption of essential services.
