UAE welcomes ceasefire in Tigray

The UAE has welcomed the declaration of a ceasefire in Ethiopia's Tigray region.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said a political solution is the only way to end the conflict in the African country.

It added that the truce is an important step towards meeting people's aspirations for peace and prosperity.

The ceasefire in Tigray comes after eight months of conflict which has killed and displaced thousands of people.
